Re: Moldy Pu'erh!!!
Yeah. The RH inside during the winter is %30-40. When I taste Kunming stores tea, I see how low humidity and temperature affects tea. I really dont care for Kunming stored tea. If it's not possible to store tea in a pumidor, than my only option is to buy tea that has been aged in Malaysia, Taiwan, G...

Moldy Pu'erh!!!
I opened up my pumidor tonight, and it smelled off. It had a mildew-like smell emanating from it. I checked a couple bricks and cakes and low and behold, there was a significant amount of mold in about half of my tea. Such a bummer. The good news is that this is my shou pumidor and it's not my main ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
Enjoying some 1990's Qing Bing from Essence of Tea. Very different than most of the sheng that I've had so far. I can really see the similarity between this style aging and shou now. Super smooth, thick and comforting. Is this what they mean by "some Hong Kong storage"? Lots of incense flavors. I do...

Re: Freezing during shipping? Is it bad
I live in Canada and I've been doing lots of Puerh orders from China over the years. I even get mail dropped in a somewhat inaccessible post box that means it sits in -33C for a few days before I manage to retrieve it. So I've had my fair share of 'frozen' sheng. Terrible postal delays as well rece...

Re: Freezing during shipping? Is it bad
why not get DHL from germany though? Because of limited airline flights (people not flying) DHL isn't offering air for "non premium" shipping. I was quoted at 37 € for about 200g of samples and an extra 16€ for the premium. Its really a lot of money considering O get packages from Taiwan and China ...

Freezing during shipping? Is it bad
I was thinking about the trip that tea takes from Asia to the west. Especially with COVID changing flight behavior, a lot of places are switching to boats. I am about to order some from a shop in Germany, and was wondering I'd the tea would experience freezing as it crosses the Atlantic to the US. D...

If it is wrong to fill up my mug this much ... I dont want to be right.
Have to be careful on the first steep not to go too long, or it gets bitter. But after that, it can go 30 minutes and be thick and sweet and delicious.

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
I also noticed that my CaCO3 concentrate is often cloudy, even at only half a gram per 900ml. No idea why this would be, as MgCO3 concentrate is totally clear, but less useful. https://teasecrets.home.blog/2021/01/02/water-recipe-2-2-3-heavy/ Were you using MgCO3 or MgSO4? The former should be almo...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
Thanks for sharing that side by side experiment Rickpatbrown, definitely interesting. My filtered tap water here has high TDS, +-180, but is still very good with DongDing and most other teas, so specific factors like alkalinity, calcium etc must be equally important. Yes. Things are definitely more...

After all that work ... a proper session is needed. Mixed all the remaining water and pulled out a thick 100mL stone pot. Jammed it with 8g

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
I guess I should start contributing a little more: 2018 Dong Ding competition 2 flowers I've drank close to a kilogram of this tea in the past 2 years. Generally, I find it to be ok. Kind of watery, but pleasant. I tested 3 waters #1) [0] Distilled water #2) [low] #3) [high] #2 was made with 1.5L of...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
I've been using some spring water I collect from a roadside spring in southern Pa. It's relatively pure with a TDS of 20ppm. I have some concerns about bacteria contamination and it's a PITA to collect it, so I'm switching to distilled water. Distilled from Target is $0.65/gallon. The only thing is ...
