Re: Mountain Stream Teas News

This month's subscription box has a stone from Alishan and one from Shanlinxi along with some extremely fresh tea in it. The stones were from the same gardens as the teas were grown. Pretty funny. I also have a collection of stones from various places around the world, and enjoy using them during t...

Hi All, This month's subscription box has a stone from Alishan and one from Shanlinxi along with some extremely fresh tea in it. The stones were from the same gardens as the teas were grown. I thought some of the tea nerds here might get a kick out of it if you are into that type of thing. I have en...

Re: Gaoshan harvest outlook?

A quick video of a drought impacted garden in Shanlinxi. Looks like frost damage. Alishan, in general, seemed to have little crop loss in the higher areas but Shanlinxi was hit pretty hard in some spots.

Re: Gaoshan harvest outlook?

East coast, both above and below 1000m, are doing fine, if a little dry. Higher elevations are doing ok, maybe on the dry edge of normal. The cold snap we have had the last couple days mixed with some rain might mean an amazing tasting, slightly below average yield, 2021 harvest. None of my friends ...

Re: Taiwanese Old Growth Tea Theft

I thought it is illegal to harvest wild tea trees in general in Taiwan... ? Not too sure where you heard this but the trees in question are on aboriginal reserve land and land use rights are granted to the lease holder. There is also a permitting auction system that has been implemented for many ar...

Re: Taiwanese Old Growth Tea Theft

How does this leasing system work, whereby outside people can come to own the right to harvest from aboriginal land? Mountain Stream Teas, your partner farmer is paying ... the Taiwanese government? the aborigines? Two different systems. The permit auction is for the National Forest Land controlled...

Taiwanese Old Growth Tea Theft

Hi All, This week our partner farm had their winter pick stolen off the trees in the mountains of the Liugui region in south-western Taiwan. The trees in that area are between 100-200 years old and thankfully there was minimal damage to the trees themselves. The trees are on aboriginal reserve land ...

Thanks for the tips and I am currently talking with Valerii. What an amazing resource! I didn't think artisanal shou was even possible. Hopefully I can learn enough to start something.

Small Batch(~30kg) Ripe Puer Processing Resources

Hi All,

Easy to find info on 1000kg batches but finding info on smaller 'piles' has been tough. Will be attempting ripe processing using maocha in the 20-30kg range. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Taiwan Tea No.24!

Not a taste for everyone though! That probably means it is a rather boring tea... I would suspect that with lower caffeine, the tea also being less rich. Kind of like alcohol free beer or caffeine free coffee which are both never really satisfying... My experience with wild teas in Taiwan has been ...

Re: Puer-esque teas from Taiwan

Having stayed in Taroko Gorge for 4 days, I find it interesting that you source tea from the aboriginal villages there. Although I do spend over 150 days a year in the Taroko Gorge National Park and surrounding mountains I have never claimed that I source tea from there. There is no tea in Taroko G...

Just an update on this, the Spring 2019 version of this cake is back in stock and shipping out right now. It is about 75% sold out so if you want some it is best not to wait too long. I will have the maocha of the this tea available for sale in a week or so as soon as I get the last little bit back ...
