Re: Various brewing methods

So as far as Western methods go, I think I understand those generally. As far as Eastern methods go, those seem to be a bit more diverse. Pardon my ignorance, but the most popular appears to be the one using a gaiwan to steep. However I've read about another that steeps in a bowl which is drunk wit...

meaning is just a construct.

it's up to you to imagine some significance and assign it to life.

Re: Various brewing methods

additional examples: i make a lot of tea in a thin, porcelain, 80mL gaiwan. i usually load it with 4.5g of leaf because that's what seems to fit well, and i also enjoy that 'dose' of tea. i brew with ~boiling water (electric kettle set to maintain 211°F), and i'm usually too lazy to use a timer. i j...

Re: Various brewing methods

very generally... you can pay close attention to what you are doing (precisely measuring brew time, amount of leaf, amount of water (and hence leaf:water brew ratio)), or not. for example, you can dump some leaf (measured or not) into a mug, add water, wait a while, and drink. i often mug brew about...

Re: Cast iron teapots

this question is a bit vague, so i will have to make some assumptions about what you're referring to. feel free to follow up with specific examples of what you'd like critiqued. cast iron kettles (like tetsubin) can be very nice. however, i have never seen a compelling cast iron teapot. i believe th...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Hello, I'm new on this forum and I apologize for posting here my question, I didn't find a more suitable thread. I've been in Japan and my wife bought on the street some "tea" in little bags. The tea tasted like soup and it was powder. I liked it a lot. I'd like to get more but I really don't know ...

Re: Strong Tea: Richard Notkin and the Yixing Tradition

awesome find! In the early 1980s, ceramist Richard Notkin, captivated by the Chinese pottery of the Yixing kilns, transformed images he had been sculpting forover a decade. In response to the rigorous formalism and subdued coloration of Yixing ceramics, particularly the teapots valued by Ming and Qi...
