Re: Shincha 2020, "the Year of COVID-19"

I grabbed a bag of Mebuki from Kettl. I had Chiran last year and it was REALLY good. Trying not to over-order this year so I figure one bag of the new stuff. Nice! I'm curious if Kettl actually has their Shincha in hand stateside yet. I placed an order last week too but haven't seen anything ship. ...

Re: Japan Post suspended all shipments to ...

I'm afraid of what all this portends for the tea farmers this year. I also hear the local market is shaking due to the cancellation of a number of events where producers typically sell large portions of their crop.

I grabbed a bag of Mebuki from Kettl. I had Chiran last year and it was REALLY good. Trying not to over-order this year so I figure one bag of the new stuff. I may grab a couple things from Yunomi as well. Their Ubugoe ( 2019 link ) Marushige Shimizu from last year was exceptional and I also quite e...

Re: How to treat unpleasant tea high?

Spiked by a white tea. Man, I hate that feeling. I'm a sensitive person as well and I have psoriasis to boot. The skin on my face and scalp sometimes feels itchy like it's crawling when I'm over-tuned like that. Brrr. Eating helps, as the folks have generally said. For me it's either carbs (rice cra...

Re: Japan Post suspended all shipments to ...

Yunomi is shipping via DHL and passes the cost to the consumer, though it's a sliding scale based on cart size. ($25 at <$50, $15 at <$100, etc.). Ocha & Co is subsidizing DHL and offering $10 flat rate up to I think 2kg. Kettl are shipping free domestic from Brooklyn. Ippodo has a US & CA store ser...

Re: Matcha Tea Newbie...

Oh, don't worry! nobody here should be offended by someone curious wandering in with genuine questions about tea. We were all beginners at some point and we all enter into tea at different points and for our own reasons. In that sense, this is the perfect place for you to explore and learn more! You...

Re: Matcha Tea Newbie...

Hey TripleB, welcome to the forum and the world of tea. Let me start by saying this is a forum of tea enthusiasts, so we tend not to enjoy tea for any supposed health benefits but rather because we like the stuff so dang much. Tea enthusiasts also tend to be a skeptical bunch when it comes to health...

Re: Different ways to brew WuYi YanCha... what’s your favourite?

I never measure anything, but it seems you might not use enough leaf. Usually with Yancha and Dancong I stuff a 60-90ml pot completely with leaves. Maybe Yancha a tiny tad less as the leaves are smaller and closer together unlike Dancong. I think you’re right. Will give that a try. What is a reason...

Yao Qing Hua Xiang "Fresh Fragrance" black tea from Phoenix Tea Collective and a selection of Fujianese black teas from Old Ways Tea from locations such as Masu and Dabo. Re: Japanese tea caddies

I found these glass jars on a matcha vendor's website yesterday (no affiliation). This particular jar holds up to 150 grams of matcha, which is an obscene amount of open air considering I never buy any single matcha in quantities greater than 40g at a time. That said, the jars themselves are designe...

It takes me roughly a 4-6 weeks of daily consumption to go through a 40g canister, so once a day every day pretty much.

Re: Japanese tea caddies

When you place open macha packs back in refridgerator, are you waiting 24hrs after taking out of refridgerator to prevent condensation from ruining the tea? I operate under the assumption that if a pack is open it should never be put back in refridgerator, even if clipped and zip locked, because al...

Re: Japanese tea caddies

This topic has been on my mind as I've been purchasing/drinking much more matcha of late. Though I got some decently quality metal canisters from a respectable tea shop in Tokyo, I keep my matcha in the original plastic packaging, clipped tightly, inside the original tin, in another plastic bag, ins...
