Re: Headed to Japan in a few months to source tea....
Some people regard Japanese oolongs or blacks as gimmicks, but I honestly love to spice things up a bit with these types of teas. Anyway, enjoy your trip! Exactly why I do (so far) dislike Japanese Oolongs or Black teas - not enough punch for the money! Teas in the same category from China or Taiwa...

Re: Pu erh mystery
I don't think I will, since I'm happy with this tea anyway; I was just surprised with the fact that it was a sheng.
But you're right, Scott has very good customer support.

Re: Pu erh mystery
Hahaha, IDK, it might be an accident since the tuos look absolutely identical in shape and color... But then the question remains: what am I drinking??There is no self wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 3:33 am
No idea what might have happened. Perhaps they accidentally sent you some sheng that looked similar to the one you ordered?

Pu erh mystery
So here's the story: I have recently bought some ripe pu from Yunnan Sourcing, specifically their "12 Years Aged Golden Melon Ripe Pu-erh Tea Tuo". It is described by YS and all the reviews as a mellow and smooth ripe, with earthy notes and everything you would expect from an aged shou (ripe) ... Th...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
2010 organic Nan Jian mini brick from YS.
Pretty good, not wow, the usual earthiness and subtle sweetness, but it has a very mineral and thirst quenching effect which I like.
All in all, a nice daily evening tea.

Re: Keeping tea fresh and exciting? Tips / advice
I'm a little late to the party, but here is my take on the matter. Although I'm not very experienced in tea yet, I've already often found myself falling in this trap: subconsciously running to tea for comfort, running to tea to forget my troubles for a while... And because of this, I started searchi...

Re: How much will you spend on tea this year?
Last year my tea budget reached 400$; that is almost entirely made up from yunnan sourcing orders once in about two months. This year it seems my annual budget will reach around 800$, which makes me think that I'll need to limit the variety of my tea drinking to one type per season, for example: ool...

Re: Yuuki-Cha recommendations?
I haven't ordered any sencha/gyo from Yuuki-Cha yet, but I did order a black and oolong an it also seems to me that their teaware is of decent quality and very affordable compared to most suppliers of Japanese tea, after purchasing a cute little houhin for about 14$. (edit: I do order from them in s...

Re: Have you ever settled on one type of tea?
I haven't settled on one type, because I like something in nearly every type of tea: both older and newer style oolongs, senchas, chinese and korean greens, Balhyochas, sheng and shu puerhs, and sometimes a black tea is just right.... Exactly! That's why I find it hard to believe that I'm ever goin...

Re: Have you ever settled on one type of tea?
I'm settled and loyal to an evening yancha, morning sencha, and mid-aged/aged puerh somewhere in between. Sometimes I add something different just for the fun and when I get a chance to try something new, I will usually do so, but this is more or less my tea schedule. $60/month is manageable, thoug...

Re: Drinking Tea Properly
I know that most of us here already had the perfect cup of tea many times, not because of "proper" brewing parameters, but because of the simple joy (an almost childish joy) we experienced in our hearts at that moment.
IMHO, that is the proper way to drink tea.
