Sweet and rich matcha from
Single cultivar Okunoyama, from Tea Repertoire tea shop. I love it.

Re: Rating current matcha and finding good cost/oz matcha (recs requested)

Tsuen Uji Manten & Taiko-San from Tsuen tea shop in Uji (available online from O-cha.com) are very good. Ippodo high end matchas are usually very good too. I will add another shop name to your list: Sazentea. I highly recommend Narino and Choan matchas (one is recommended for koicha and one for usuc...

Re: Goishi cha, typical profile

John_B : Everything you describe sounds like goishi cha to me. It is exactly the taste and impression I remind of when I tried it. And same as pedant , I only have tried it outside of teabags, pressed leaves, cut in small square/rectangle thin pieces. It was not from TdJ but received from a friend.

Re: Is tea a spiritual activity for you?

I was about to post an answer to this topic about zen in relation with tea while reading the last entries. I read the considerations by Baisao about tea and zen, and this whole discussion bring me the thought of how zen people explain (Or do not explain) zen. Zen is zen, and tea is tea. For me, spir...

Re: Bizen or Tokoname for Gyokuro?

Same as the previous answers, if I had to choose I’d go for the second one. My own choice is for shudei or other Japanese red clay to brew this kind of tea. Oxydation or reduction firing make no big difference. The iron content of these clay make the tea body more velvety and acts as umami and cream...

Re: Is tea a spiritual activity for you?

The above quote is very inspiring indeed, but one must note that it was written about Japanese Way of Tea as first intention. I don’t know how much it can be used for other ways of tea. Anyway, tea in China has also been a typical activity for Chinese intellectual and art-cultivated class. I don’t k...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

I think it’s an impression of the photo, actually the lid is just resting on the belly of the teapot under the handle. I kept the lid open because I didn’t want the gyokuro to be overcooked by heat during the first infusion.

Looks European to me.
Same to me, or Chinese made for exportation to Europe (because of the cabbage look which is less surprising in Asian ceramics).
