Dhammabum Yixing can be very thin, but it’s easier to make them thicker.

Pot looks nice enough!
Thanks Bok! Could we assume thinner pots take greater skill and craftsmanship? ;)

I forgot to mention, the inside walls appear to have circular lines around the pot...

Re: Yixing

Hi fellow chajin! I hope you are all keeping well and drinking some good tea. It’s Autumn here and I’m happy to be drinking darker, warming teas again! I acquired this new pot and wanted your insights. I got it because it seemed fairly unique and unusual. I guess it’s a Shui Ping. A bit different to...

Re: Yixing

In this case its def wheel thrown because all CZ pots (except some very low grade molded ones) are. Plenty of yixing have it too, but for vintage CZ pots for them to have nothing other than the Meng Chen mark is pretty common with the exception of a few studios/makers. The real giveaway is the slur...

Re: Yixing

 I just stumbled across the auction I am guessing you are looking at Dhammabum. It is not a yixing pot, it is CZ which yes is wheel thrown. The mark, shape, and clay are much more of a givaway than the base itself. Also an older pot, but taking a shot in the dark I would guess maybe 50s or 60s...

Re: Yixing

Making of circular shapes usually involves some kind of rotation of something. It doesn't mean it is wheel throw (it doesn't look like it is), nor does it say much about quality. Thanks .m. I’ve never seen anything like it - have you? One wonders what it could be to leave such marks. Also, if it is...

Circular pattern on base of pot

Hello guys!

Been a while...

Hoping some of the more experienced folk can help me out. What tends to cause this circular pattern on the base of a pot? Does this mean it was likely wheel thrown and is of low quality/workmanship?

It seems to be an old ROC pot...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Drank more of the 2021 Yesheng Hong Cha I had posted about about a month ago... the difference now is that I've been drinking tea regularly for the past few weeks. I find it a lot less appealing, though I don't really fault the tea, I think my tastebuds are just different now. I found it hard to di...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Have just finished some cheap and cheerful 2004 Liu Bao I picked up in Taiwan. From the kind of tea shop that has baskets and tongs of tea stacked from floor to ceiling. Kind of wrong tea for this weather in Europe but nonetheless helps with the humidity. I’d LOVE to know where to get good aged Liu ...

Re: My other pots...

Just thought I’d share my other two pots. Both Shui Ping. One in Hongni and the smaller cute one in Zini. Both bought in Taiwan for not very much money. Both seem like good clay and make nice tea. I drink WAY too much Shou and so usually end up using both of these for that and other darker teas lik...

Re: Help! Yixing Identification Needed

Hey guys! Hope you are all having a lovely day. I’m in need of some help by way of identifying and authenticating this Yixing pot. I’ve been practicing Gongfu-Cha for 7 or so years, I’ve built up a very small collection of Yixing ware including 4 or so teapots. By no means an expert on the topic bu...
