Re: "Neutral" Clays

Ethan Kurland Thank you for that advice Ethan; you read my current place along the journey well --- even right up to the point that I had just inquired with Bok about such a pot not moments ago; perhaps there is a mystical destiny at play here  Your words about the importance of clay in relati...

Re: "Neutral" Clays

GaoShan Thanks for those thoughts above; it's always nice to find other folks following parallel paths or on the hunt for similar ends. I hadn't considered the Mumyoi/Nosaka clays from Japan; but that's a really good lead considering how folks have been describing some of them. It makes me think ab...

Re: "Neutral" Clays

thats very helpful feedback Baiyun - you likely saved me a lot of "groundwork" in that regard, as your process essentially follows exactly what I was planning on doing > but knowing you have ~4 such pots and that they are giving you similar results will likely keep me from repeatedly investing in "j...

Re: "Neutral" Clays

Not sure 150$ will get you true Zhuni in most cases… can’t comment on modern Zhuni, I only own one. oh for sure, I'm certainly not under the impression that I'm getting "the real thing" per se - but I am curious about seeing if this kind of accessible and passable quality "high fired red clay" can ...

Re: "Neutral" Clays

 Unglazed clays that further enhance fragrance/top notes above and beyond what porcelain retains (does this exist? ) That would be high fired Zhuni – but with the caveat that there are many kinds of Zhuni (over periods of history, processing, blending etc.). But as a simple answer, Zhu...

Re: "Neutral" Clays

There's definitely been some good points up brought up here, regarding the concept of neutrality being subjective, "neutral" teaware not always being neutral when you start to dissect it, etc (hence the quotes in the thread title :P ) Those are definitely valid considerations, though i feel like fro...

"Neutral" Clays

Hi all, Curious if we could make a running list of teaware clays that are known to have a generally "neutral" effect on most teas. Even though it may be sacrilegious to some, I think I may not be alone in my desire to handle and use teaware that looks and feels something like 'traditional unglazed y...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

Certain levels of TDS actually make for better tea — I can’t use filtered tap water for brewing my usual teas which are usually at least $0.50/g because the taste would be pretty flat. Otherwise I might as well drink something cheaper because it would taste pretty similar. Trying the Nice! Iceland ...

Tea Flavor Compass: Towards the Fruity & Floral

Hello seasoned taste explorers of Tea Forum; I seek your guidance and wisdom... I hope those more experienced than me can help orient my "flavor compass" towards teas of a particular expression that I have become infatuated with seeking, and if I am so lucky, drinking: teas that exhibit Fruitiness &...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

@ d.manuk Hey there, I'm new to the forum; but having come from a modern specialty coffee background, have some reasonable experience comparing / deciphering water profiles, conducting taste tests, etc. When I run into some time, I'm looking forward to sharing some of my findings and (anecdotal) res...

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hello Tea Forum Folks; happy to finally be joining the conversation...! In the simplest terms, I find myself interested in tea because of its near limitless diversity, complexity, and opportunity for evolving experimentation.
