Re: Gyokuro recommendations

Hello Japanese tea experts, I am reviving this thread hoping for a good quality 2023 Gyokuro vendor recommendation. Happy to order from Japan.

Re: The Porcelain Thread

I've been experimenting with back to back tasting in a few cups I've got flying around and this shape uniformly works well for me for what I generally drink. Granted, all examples I have so far are modern porcelain, stoneware, or even borosilicate, as I have not yet found a vintage porcelain example...

Re: Yixing

Thanks for your responses, makes sense, although I don't think there is a space for such big pots in my brewing. The 70-100ml range works for me and I find my 120ml pots to be on the large side, I rarely fill them to the top when drinking alone. .m. I am also a fan of transferring leaves after the l...

500-600 ml?
How do people here use these huge pots? Chuck 30g of leaf in it for a whole dinner party to enjoy, or a low leaf to water ratio Western style brew?

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Thank you oolong friends, it has been invaluable to follow recommendations from this forum. GaoShan I have that wild garden SLX and found it to be nice also, strong leaves. My overall impression so far is that their teas are aligned to their price points, that said, I did not order any of the compet...

Re: Does anyone believe anyone any more?

A fine guest you are. Denying people honey, pushing second infusions on people, questioning dishes. Back in my day, we'd have a servant throw you into the moat against your ignorant will, knowing you'd enjoy the dip after all. Washed from your fixations, you would have been served the finest tea in ...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Floating Leaves stopped shipping internationally so I am spending some time with several Wang Family Tea oolongs to try a new Taiwan supplier. I don't think I added much or anything from 2023, need to check again. Mostly from the first part of last year. From a learning perspective, it is nice to so...

Re: The Porcelain Thread

Thanks @LeoFox and @DailyTX. I do not enjoy hunting on auction sites so I will likely continue to wait for releases from tea vendors I trust and expand this search to Japanese ware. Underglaze decoration with intact glaze is a must for me in that vintage segment.

Re: The Porcelain Thread

Baiyun, I wonder if you have looked into vintage Japanese porcelain cups? Typically, the Chinese porcelain collectors don't go after them, and Japanese porcelains seem easier to find in comparison to Chinese counterpart at a reasonable price. I have not. Do they make low volume thin walled cups als...

Re: The Porcelain Thread

What do you think causes these effects on texture between porcelain cups? The way the liquor flows into the mouth based on the slope of the cup and flare of the lip, or anything else? I am just at the beginning of cup exploration and find it difficult to find cups I like to begin with. Vintage examp...

Re: The Porcelain Thread

LeoFox that's a nice looking cup. I am currently sourcing and experimenting a bit with porcelain cups to retire my double walled glass cups for something less clinical, and that is a shape I took a liking to. However, my impression is that greener teas (surely green teas but also greener oolongs) d...

Re: Oolong Vendor Topic

Thank you both Andrew S and LeoFox , sounds like a trustworthy source. I trimmed down my initial shopping cart a bit and made a start with the "Metamorphosis Laocong Shuixian 2020 - Zhengyan" and the "Echoes Rougui 2022". I found the old bookstore reference in the description of the first tea, so ma...

Re: Oolong Vendor Topic

I am intending to order some yancha from Lazy Cat and thought I'd ask if any of the members here had specific recommendations of great tea at any given price point from their current offerings: https://www.lazycattea.com/product-category/tea/wulong-tea/ Probably looking at Rougui and Shuixian to lea...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

She said I can drink as much mountain dew and/or tea and/or coffee as I want, but not to take over 8 of my vitamine caffeine tablets (only 200mg each) a day. I am calling bs on this and suggest you see another doctor. Those amounts are ridiculous. Irresponsible statements. Blood pressure is not the...

If you still try to think any more about them, I know you are still not through."
