Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Hmm, thank you! I probably steeped too long. Apologies for my shorthand-ratio format, I will write them out from now on. x:y is tea leaf to water in g. So 1:100 is 1g leaf to 100g water (very close to 100ml water, for all intents and purposes). In the first couple days, it was formally 2g to 200ml w...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Bitter? Very surprised to see that early. Are you infusing very long or very hot? First two days were 1:100 ratio, 180F for 2-3 minutes first brew, then 5-7 minutes second, 10-15 third. Third brew had a slight metallic taste but was good and clearly starting to lose some flavor. I tried a fourth br...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
I read about the Mauna Kea tea in another thread, ordered the orchid one for fun, and received June harvest this past week. My plan was to begin drinking tea next week after returning from my work trip, however, I couldn't wait and have been brewing this last few days trying different ratios and wat...

Re: old tins: keep, toss/recycle, or donate?
Thanks for helping me pair this stuff down
I've tossed all the tins into the recycling bin, except the ones with clasps on the right which are perfect for dried garden herbs I forgot about. I'll keep the plastic ones for tea, they do not have any odors.

Re: newbie stuck - what next?
I measured out 50, 80, and 100ml this morning just to see what it would be like. It will take some time to adapt.

old tins: keep, toss/recycle, or donate?
While tidying up in preparation for my first teas to arrive later this week, I cleaned out a cabinet full of old tins. I've had some of these since 2006 so obviously all the internet "17 ways to reuse tea tin" articles haven't been helpful. As if I'm really going to make candles, herb planters, or g...

Re: newbie stuck - what next?
blah blah blah teaware blah blah blah I'm not listening :P I really like the little green one, Baisao thank you for bringing that clay artist to my attention! Will keep an eye out now. I don't want to impulse accumulate and lose myself in the gear, goal is only enough to enjoy the tea so I will be e...

Re: newbie stuck - what next?
Thanks for the links :) Any chance there might be slovak potters that do these types of ware? I actually searched for that before, and found the pu-eh.sk site, but that was it. Also, I have found the "matching" teapot for the zweibelmuster set, a couple show up for sale, but they are used so I'm goi...

Re: newbie stuck - what next?
Thanks for the shops Victoria , I do occasionally get up to Los Angeles and sometimes meet a friend in Alhambra! The Tea Habit looks like what I'd want. Though there's a pretty big Asian population in Irvine and surrounding area, a quick search brings up this cafe style shop amongst several pastry-b...

Re: newbie stuck - what next?
Thank you again, Baisao ! That's helpful :) If you are interested, I'm happy to share some of my notes from coffee drinking days by message off the board. Based on some of your comments, you are well on your way. It's a deep..deeeeeep hole, especially espresso, tread carefully. Surprised/happy I got...

Re: newbie stuck - what next?
Thank you all! I will start with the teas then. I don't know yet what I like and don't like, will need to taste a few before I can start asking. I am concerned my mug's infuser is a bit small, the black color is not ideal, but I'll manage for now with it and other vessels (e.g. mason jar or glass me...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
Early in this thread someone mentioned the Crystal Gyser Alpine Spring water from Mt. Shasta. This specific water was recommended to me for use in my espresso machine, and it may have made a difference (it certainly kept scale down). It was not easy to find, all the grocery stores near me carry the ...

Re: Using teas for cooking
Some ideas for dessert: - macarons (filling or batter) - eclairs / papas / choux (filling or glaze) - ice cream / gelato is a popular one - white chocolate truffle ganache filling - ginger snap cookie frosting - "chai latte" pastry... think rum cake, but cardomon and masala flavored, drizzle tea ove...
