Re: Vintage vs Workmanship... what's your preference?

I'd prefer the one that looks and works better. Utility is more important. I don't really care about contemporary masters. On the other hand, 'Ming/Qing/ROC/孟臣 teapot' sounds great lol.

Re: Hints for brewing competition grade Bai Hao

If you've got only 10 grams available, I'd just split it into two 5 gram sessions in a ~100 ml gaiwan/pot and brew it like hong cha or oolong. I never time my steeps, but I'd start with 20-30 seconds and extend as needed. I usually use water that's as close to boiling as possible, but possibly this ...

Re: Regular cleaning of porcelain teapots

Usually a rinse with water and gentle scrub with fingers after every use is enough to keep porcelain clean. Sometimes I don't bother for weeks and just rinse with water before putting tea leaves in. If the residue gets too dark, thick, or otherwise unaesthetic, or if I forget about the leaves for to...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

According to my water provider's tap water lab reports the specs of mine are, on average: pH: 7,5 CaCO3: 234 mg/l Iron <20 μg/l Manganese <10 μg/l Chlorides <5 mg/l Ammonium <0,04 mg/l Nitrates: 0,33 mg/l Nitrites <0,01 mg/l. That makes it ~13.1 in German degrees, which is considered hard. Recently,...

Re: ANMO Art Cha – German tea shop review

Prices in EU can get ridiculous very quickly, I've seen teas with a price tag more than double of what I would've had to pay after taxes and shipping when importing them myself.

Re: Best UE vendors

What type of tea are you looking for? I don't have much experience with UE vendors, but https://www.laoteashop.cz/ was quick, and no problems on the border.

Re: Boiled tea flavour

mbanu I can't really tell the difference between freshly boiled water and water that's been boiling for a while. But I try my best to aerate the tea when brewing. wave_code Perhaps the metal restrains wood (the tea) in the Five Elements sense. I actually have been looking into bigger pots recently,...

Boiled tea flavour

I remember that when I was boiling tea in my stainless steel pan, it would always turn out different than when brewing in a gaiwan or in a thermos. The taste was strong, all right, but it was always kind of equalized, minty, not very interesting. Good when you want to extract the leaves quickly and ...

Re: Electric Kettles

Thanks @Victoria. I guess I'll just start having tea in the kitchen near the gas stove and use the ordinary stainless steel kettle that I have that has no plastic elements in contact with water. It works well, is pretty quiet, and doesn't smell at all.

Re: Electric Kettles

Recently I've dug out an electric kettle that I want to make use of. The parts that have contact with water are stainless steel, but the lid, the handle, and everything else is plastic. It does smell like a factory new DVD player. Do you have any reliable methods of removing such odors? I've tried b...

DaDian - 大滇號

Does anyone have experience with this producer? DaDian seems to be very knowledgeable about Yunnan tea.

I think the left is "盛開堂". Take a look at this auction here: https://history.aucfan.com/yahoo/r333706312/bidrank/. The squares on top look similar.

Re: Does anyone buy tea during Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales around here?

I like prices that are fair. When discounts appear regularly, it means that the regular prices are already above what is profitable. It doesn't make sense then to make orders outside the sales. That's why I only buy butter and bananas at third or half of the original price. The dairy industry is big...
