Re: Snapped lid knob - Epoxy DIY? Kintsugi?

@pedant The picture is probably the "best" possible light to show the slight gap there. I did test fits but this is what it came down to when the epoxy was in. Either it hooked like one grain off the proper alignment or the epoxy added just a little bit of height to make the section where it didn't ...

Re: Snapped lid knob - Epoxy DIY? Kintsugi?

Ok, feel like I should report back how it went. I have no place to get a professional repair (the kintsugi offer I mailed didn't reply) and couldn't even just go and buy all kinds of JB weld to test with. So... in the end it was the most straightforward variant. Tiny amount of bog standard JB weld, ...

Re: Snapped lid knob - Epoxy DIY? Kintsugi?

Thank you, very helpful tips so far. Especially the bit about not trying to wipe excess epoxy while fresh. I've read up on epoxy and food safety as well... some say don't expose it above 70C, others say not boiling. Seems a bit difficult to select a good one in that respect. No matter how careful I ...

Snapped lid knob - Epoxy DIY? Kintsugi?

Well, crap. The lid slipped from my hands pretty low above the pot and hit it in just the right angle to snap the lid knob clean off. I guess the good news is that it's a very clean break in a non visible spot? DSC_5889.jpg Now... while it's still perfectly usable I HAVE to fix this. My first impuls...

Re: Yixing

The clay looks like zini to my untrained eyes (and zisha often seems to be used to refer to zini for some reason), but others here will know better. I'm sure you'll have fun experimenting to see what it does to your teas. Yours looks like the light kind of Zini typical of the 70-80s period. Also us...

Re: Yixing

So... I browsed ZAG and somehow ended up buying this little guy. It's cleaned and now I have to start figuring out how it influences my brews. DSC_5856.jpg DSC_5858.jpg It should be an 80s pot, but the clay description was kind of vague. Any guesses? The description was "紫砂长咀西施壶", which, according t...

Re: European Union EU private imports / good local vendors after summer 2021

My experience with Japan has been smooth in general, be it sazen or hibiki-an. China is a no-go in Germany, I would assume any shipment to fail that has contents declared as tea now that customs are heavily streamlined? At least I could only get by with an invoice that didn't detail the contents bac...

Re: Mei leaf

I guess the size of this topic reflects their online presence? Gotta say they immensely facilitated getting into tea proper coming from just japanese greens, and they solved all import headaches for me as EU customer, until last year anyway. I certainly needed that comprehensive selection and descri...

Re: Yixing

kekstee: welcome to the biandeng club. I had the same thought process when I got my 60s one as my first ever hongni pot; surely, this will satisfy me for many years, I won't need more for a while. I remain of the view that it will satisfy me for many years, but the teapot acquisition bug has bitten...

Couldn't resist this F1 Biandeng. Should be 70s.

Re: Yixing

Well, that 70s HongNi is really nice I have to admit. Tried it with a couple of teas now, but I guess due to size and flavour yancha really feels like the most reasonable long term use... Got a nice (current) Zhuni pot for sheng... but I wouldn't mind that in the HongNi pot either if it was bigger ...

Re: Yixing

Yeah the very shiny looking first highlights basically have 45° angles camera to surface and back to a daylight window. So worst case I guess. Glad it does seem to check out though, digging through antique shops for clay pots is not an option around here  /e does an English translation and prin...

Re: Yixing

The question then becomes, dump it into percarbonate or try my luck with a refund. I don't have a flash or a really decent setup for product shots... went for some closeups of the clay though. album has the full res crops. inside the lid, rougher bottom to smooth dome: _DSC4326.jpg bottom rim: _DSC4...
