Vendors of Japanese porcelain ware (Arita, Hasami) and clay teaware with glaze inside?
Hello everyone, I've been looking for fully glazed (or at least glazed inside) Japanese teaware for small amounts of sencha and gyokuro for ages. I see a few products here and there, but it's not much. Could you recommend any vendors which ship abroad and specialize in this type of teaware or at lea...

Re: Question about tokoname.or.jp product listing
Thanks everyone!
Guess the people saying there are more products listed somewhere on his page were wrong then. I'll just ask him whether the specific products I want are in stock despite not being listed.

Question about tokoname.or.jp product listing
Hello everyone, before I write a mail to the people running the website I wanted to see if someone here happens to know the answer to my question: On http://tokoname.or.jp/teapot/ there is a list of photos of the products currently for sale. I thought this was the entire list. However, I've come acr...

For a) you could take a look at Inge Nielsen's pottery. People say she's good. She's not Japanese though. https://ingenielsenpottery.com/shop/ Thank you. It doesn't have to be from Japan, but to my knowledge Inge Nielsen doesn't make anything close to what I'm looking for. She doesn't make flat kyu...

Where to buy porcelain or clay kyusu with inside glaze around 120 ml and around 180-200 ml (Ippodo alternatives) - must
Hello everyone, I am looking for a) small flat Japanese teapots which are glazed inside (porcelain and clay both ok) and hold around 120 ml, and b) Japanese teapots of any shape which are made of clay and glazed inside (no porcelain) and hold 180 ml or a bit more. So far the only place with I've see...

Re: Impossible to completely pour out water of kyusu with stainless steel filter - normal or not?
It's the mesh. I tried tilting town the spout and then laying a paper towel onto the filter. I immediately becomes soaked, and when I return the pot to its normal position no water flows back. If I just tilt it down and shake hard, then return it to the original position, all the water flows back. I...

Impossible to completely pour out water of kyusu with stainless steel filter - normal or not?
Hello everyone, I just bought a Kyusu with a stainless steel mesh for the first time. It looks to be fairly good quality, but it is impossible to completely drain it. It pours very well, but some water clings to the backside of the steel filter (normal behavior I presume) and also to the area betwee...

Re: Which water (hardness) to use for Da Hong Pao, Tie Guanyin and Siji Chun?
Cifer: searching for the 'best' or the most 'authentic' water may be like searching for the 'perfect' teapot. There's no such thing. I am not sure if you have much experience with these teas yet. If you do not, then you may find it to be useful to try the same tea with, say, three different waters ...

Re: Which water (hardness) to use for Da Hong Pao, Tie Guanyin and Siji Chun?
I tried 100ppm (Asahi's Fuji Water/ Volvic) and worked fine with Yancha. Thank you! I know harder waters work fine with most oolongs, but what I'd like to know is if about 30 ppm is too little to produce an authentic taste or not. I was not able to find a source stating what kind of water is used i...

Which water (hardness) to use for Da Hong Pao, Tie Guanyin and Siji Chun?
Hello everyone! Could someone let me know water of which hardness I should generally use to get a fairly authentic taste out of Da Hong Pao, Tie Guanyin and Siji Chun oolongs? I use filtered water for my standard teas and Black Forest (about 30 ppm) for green teas. Would that be too low of a mineral...

Re: Avoiding and dealing with limestone buildup inside kyusu
Thanks a lot, I'll try citric acid if I ever need to descale a ceramic pot.
Do any of you have experience with citric acid vs. vinegar? Is one better/safer than the other for ceramic pots?

Avoiding and dealing with limestone buildup inside kyusu
Hello everyone, First, some background info: I live in an area with fairly hard water (about 250 ppm). I use spring waters with a hardness of 63 ppm or less to brew teas in my unglazed kyusus, but hot tap water with a hardness of about 250 ppm to rinse out the leaves and clean the pot, followed by a...

Calabash/cuia volume for one person?
Hello everyone, I will soon be buying a calabash and a cuia. I am not sure yet about the material, but be it natural or ceramic, the shapes will be the traditional ones. What volume is appropriate for one person? I thought 200 ml would be good, but at least for the cuia a Brazilian store owner told ...

Re: Inexpensive small porcelain or glazed clay kyusu (or houhin)
I do prefer teapots of one material as well, but from a practical point of view steel mesh is simply so much better. The houhin I linked is simply ugly, can't deny that. But it's something I'd like to have in addition to the normal houhin I have. I know that with patience I will be able to find ever...

Re: Inexpensive small porcelain or glazed clay kyusu (or houhin)
I actually found one just like I want on Maiko's store: https://maikotea.jp/product/gyokuro-tea ... bfe8c45e1c
Sadly the shipping would cost 33 Euros, and for 60 euros I would rather buy something else than a cheap houhin worth about 20
