Re: Your day in tea
I had a nice Tie Guan Yin from Tea Habitat today in my Watanabe Tozo teapot! The tea tasted about the same as it usually does, which is a nice roasted flavor with SLIGHT floral notes during the first few infusions. I can't ever seem to ever get a strong consistent flavor out of it though. Maybe I wo...

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing
Ah thank you for alleviating my concerns Baisao ! A simple boil or two with an actual cloth towel at the bottom is a simple fix :D Oh and I think I wasn't clear. I didn't mean I combined the baking soda and vinegar and let it bubble. I just scrubbed the pot lightly with baking soda, then simmered it...

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing
I'm probably overworrying here, but does anyone know if putting paper towels on the bottom of a boiling pot will cause them to leach undesirable elements onto a teapot when cleaning it? I followed Victoria 's instructions when cleaning my Kobiwako clay kyusu, using baking soda and vinegar, and each ...

Re: Shincha 2021. What's in your cart?
My order from Yunomi finally arrived, serves me right for choosing the cheaper shipping option  The shincha I bought was a cheaper one from the Kaneroku Matsumoto Tea gardens. It has a VERY STRONG umami punch for the first infusion which, after drinking lighter Chinese greens, almost felt like ...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
It is really impressive to me how diverse the flavors of Chinese green teas are. I remember when I first started trying Chinese greens the fact that they were sweet and not overly bitter or vegetal blew my mind  in my defense though my experience with "green" teas before that was probably how m...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
debunix sure thing! Here's the tea that I was drinking: https://maunakeatea.com/product/premium-green-tea/ The tea was super unique in the sense that it has qualities that are typical of both Chinese and Japanese greens, so much so in fact that it felt like it's own style. I didn't actually realize...

Re: Your day in tea
Victoria: I think that it's interesting that we both tend to have our daily 'routine' teas in the morning; it seems to make sense instinctively as a matter of routine and comfort. Andrew You know, it's rather interesting because I do something similar as well. I don't have specific teas that a drin...

Re: Hojo Tea
TBH, I've had many months go by and never got any email back from Hojo even after sending another email later so I go through Chrystal. She's friendly, prompt and is very knowledgeable. That DHL cost is high but when I got no response from Japan I started going through her. I got a pot from her via...

Re: Hojo Response Delay
I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds here as a new user, and I'm sorry I'm reviving an old-ish thread, but would you mind sending me the contact info as well OCTO? I've ordered from Hojo many times in the past, so I'm pretty used to him not responding for weeks sometimes, and it's not that I'm imp...

Re: Shincha 2021. What's in your cart?
Ah interesting! Thanks for giving me some tasting notes to look for in this shincha. Hopefully it's good, I'll definitely post my thoughts on it whenever that order arrives. Even if it's not a good shincha I should still be able to find some enjoyment in it. As snobbish as I may be in regards to tea...

Oh yeah, it's definitely good enough! Compared to my tapwater when I was in college, the water now is a godsend! I can actually drink it straight without gagging haha

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
This was my water today - over the past two weeks I replicated water from the West tributary of the Pearl River Delta in China. This water flows all the way to Yunnan. I then made tea with it, and reported on it in this post! Finally my pure water is decent quality, so the water is becoming very en...

Re: Shincha 2021. What's in your cart?
I just ordered my first bag of shincha from Yunomi! It's an Ohashiri shincha from the Kaneroku Matsumoto tea garden, so hopefully I picked a good bag. I've never actually tasted a shincha before, so I'm unsure of what to expect. I know it's a sencha, right? So then should I just expect a stronger, f...
