Re: Green Tea Vendor Topic
I don't think the issue here is "are TdJ's prices too high" but rather the whole exchange rate trick where you effectively have two different menus on the table and the answer to the arbitrary question "where are you located?" determines what prices you are charged. Personally, I think some of thei...

Re: Looping usps packages
How do you reach the station master? My local branch literally does not pick up the phone for their posted (harhar) number.

Re: Boiled tea flavour
I remember that when I was boiling tea in my stainless steel pan, it would always turn out different than when brewing in a gaiwan or in a thermos. The taste was strong, all right, but it was always kind of equalized, minty, not very interesting. Good when you want to extract the leaves quickly and...

Re: Your favorite Dan Cong vendor?
I'd take anything tea related that KZ says/recommends with a grain of salt. Too much ego in that one. Some teas he has recommended in the past were junky.

Re: Yixing
For stubborn pot smells I have tried vinegar, baking soda, citric acid soaks and boiling all with pretty limited success - nothing has worked as well for me as sodium percarbonate for any kind of cleaning. Agreed! Sodium percarbonate has worked the best at cleaning for me too. I did receive a piece...

Re: Tea Quiz
Hmmmmm "1 teaspoon of tea per 1 cup of water" I don't know of anyone who prepares tea by measured teaspoons. With so many varieties of tea, 1 tsp per cup of water would hardly be universal enough to be called a "Golden Ratio". I weigh in grams or gauge by sight. Also, rooibos is no more tea than Red...

Re: Testsubin Black Residue
If you are heating it over gas, I suppose there is the possibility that incomplete combustion could leave soot. I cant quite tell from what part of the tetsubin you are finding this soot-like substance but I have seen actual soot from gas stoves find its way quite far up the outside of kettles.

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing
I haven't tried percarb yet, mostly because I tend to have bicarb on hand for porcelain. I usually do a warm bicarb soak, followed by light scrubbing with a chunk of loofah, warm white vinegar soak to neutralise, finishing with boiling water rinses. Never had to contend with any tough staining thou...

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing
I reset them when they start to feel a bit dirty, like when the interior is to a substantial degree covered with residues, or when putting a nice tea in them doesn't feel right anymore. The first one or two sessions after it might be a bit awkward, but afterwards the pot starts to feel right again....

Damn that really sucks to hear. I mean if anyone knows the shop's contact details on 171 Queens Road Central in HK that would be great but I'm not hopeful. I paid around £200 for it 😞 You may try to stabilize it with Permabond, a FDA & EU approved food safe adhesive but it does contain BPA as appar...

Re: Interior crack inside yixing lid
I wouldn't worry too much. One of my pots has a similar crack - late 1970s/early 80s green label zini. Been using boiling water without too much care ./download/file.php?id=14243 The crack in his pot is more severe and extensive. I think it is likely to separate whereas yours is likely to remain th...
