Welcome, fellow Steepster member!
I wish you luck with your organization, and it would be great if we had something similar in Toronto.

Last day for CHT (Laoshi) tea preorders
This is the last day to preorder tea from Chen Huan Tang. I'll check back next morning to compile and purchase the order. I'll put any unsold tea up for sale, but if you want 150 g of an individual tea, this is the time to let me know. If the website isn't being responsive, you can email me at oolon...

Lower prices for Chen Huan Tang teas
I edited my initial CHT post to lower the prices on his teas. I'm not including potential customs charges anymore. If my package incurs duties, I'll either send it back to CBSA for reinspection, which can take over a month near the holidays, or ask buyers if they're willing to help cover the extra c...

Re: Taiwan Oolong Joy
GaoShan thanks for sharing your tasting notes. Your images of what looks like dry leaf stump me as I don’t think I’ve ever tried Taiwan oolong that isn’t wiry or rolled into a ball. Are these all from one vendor who rolls oolong straight? It's actually a picture of the spent leaves after the sessio...

Sampling some lightly roasted oolongs
After a long wait due to a strike by Canada Post, I received samples of some lightly roasted oolongs from my main supplier earlier this week. Today, I compared three of them using competition-style brewing (i.e., 3 g in 150 ml of boiling water for 6 minutes). Competition bowls.png From left to right...

Chen Huan Tang tea
I was able to get access to a small number of teas from Chen Huan Tang. People who bought his teas from Tillerman might also know him as Laoshi since he was the vendor's teacher in Taiwan. I'm making this post to get a sense of people's interest before purchasing the tea, as this order could get exp...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Sour notes are normally indicative of storage that has been too wet. Plum is fine and to be expected but if it’s more sour, than it’s wetness The tea was stored in a kitchen cupboard in a sealed zip bag. It hasn't come in contact with moisture that I know of, though summers can get humid. The sour/...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
If I've had liuan with dead spiders in it, I think you'll be fine (not that that's medical advice...). Plums and peaches sounds pleasant. I'm less sure about cinnamon, though. Perhaps you caught it at an awkward time, when it doesn't know if it's an aged tea or a fresh one. Or you just like fresh t...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
I had a weird oolong session today. Trying to find teas from Chen Huan Tang led me to check if I had any Tillerman teas left, and it turns out I have some of his spring 2020 Cuifeng. It was in a zip bag with some air in it. I dithered over whether to try it and curiosity won. It is definitely an age...

Re: Tracking down teas from Chen Huan Tang (a.k.a. Laoshi)
GaoShan I will reach out to tea friends who visit Taipei and or have ordered from Chen Huan Tang directly and get back to you. Also, I can share my last (via Tillerman) order his Meishan High Mountain Oolong and Qilai High Mountain as well. You’ll enjoy both. In the past I’ve gotten Chen’s roasted ...

Re: Tracking down teas from Chen Huan Tang (a.k.a. Laoshi)
Don't think there is any other way than to see the man himself. He is very old school, not sure you get any retail price at all, if he has never seen you or talked to you... if he sells at all. Just the way tea business works in Taiwan. Does not help that as far as I know he does not really speak E...

Re: Tracking down teas from Chen Huan Tang (a.k.a. Laoshi)
Its been a while since I've thought about these teas. Have fond memories of drinking Laoshi's teas when I was first starting drinking tea more seriously. Unfortunately don't have any left to share or send your way. I remember the dong ding being quite good, and certainly at a good price point for w...

Tracking down teas from Chen Huan Tang (a.k.a. Laoshi)
Among my tea-related regrets is not buying some of the Dong Ding from Chen Huan Tang when it was available from Tillerman. Does anyone know if I can find it elsewhere? Shui Tang in Switzerland has a blog post about CHT's Dong Ding, with links to a Dong Ding Da Pang. However, it's been several years ...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
I bought a bunch of Anji Bai Cha from Seven Cups and other vendors this year and I thought I'd do a comparison session as I did with Bi Luo Chun and Longjing last year. I steeped 2.4 g of all three teas in 120 ml of 185F water for four minutes, resteeping as needed until the tea faded. None of these...
