If I was going to spend $500+ on a teapot, I'd get a pre-1977 Hongni (if I could find one).
I'm planning to put one on the TeaSwap soon, 110ml, need to take some photos first...
I wasn't planning on buying a fancy pot, but I'm tempted. :)

Buy from real zisha. Seriously. Best clays and certain Yixing zisha.
All of their pots seem to be sold out, plus the prices are significantly higher. If I was going to spend $500+ on a teapot, I'd get a pre-1977 Hongni (if I could find one).

Re: Yixing advice

A recent post about Zhuni pots prompted me to look at Essence of Tea's website, and they had two 100 ml Zhuni pots for a good price. They had a Huanglongshan Zhuni pot and a Xiao Mei Yao Zhuni of the same size, which is now out of stock. Due to the low price point, I was considering buying one of th...

Having GaoShan's Da Yu Ling, it has a nice bold sweet flavor like Ethan's had.
Glad you're enjoying it! :)

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Slowly getting around to drinking some of the aged wulong that I got in Taiwan - this one's a 20-something year old twice-roasted Alishan (not the generic 'twenty years old' kind, but rather that the owner told me the exact age but I forgot to write it down...). Very aromatic; it filled the room wi...

Re: Taiwan Oolong Joy

I'm having a flash Lunar New Year sale from now until midnight on February 18. My new winter high mountain oolongs (Longfengxia, Hehuanshan, and Dayuling) are 12% off and the rest of my inventory is 25% off. Chit Chats, the carrier I'm using for Canadian and international shipments, is closing the b...

Re: Hints for brewing competition grade Bai Hao

Apparently, there are a lot of different ways to brew this tea: 3 g, 100 ml, 175F, 55 seconds (Hojo) 5 g, 100 ml, 212F, 20 seconds (LeoFox) 6 g, 100 ml, 185F, 60 seconds (Tillerman) 8 g, 100-120 ml, 212F, 30-45 seconds (Bok) 8 g, 100 ml, 205F, 80 seconds (Victoria) Hojo is an outlyer with his much ...

Re: Hints for brewing competition grade Bai Hao

Also, for completeness, I wanted to add that according to Tea Masters, to brew Bai Hao competition style, use the same parameters as for black tea competitions: 3 g, 150 ml, boiling water, 5 minutes. Tea Masters has a 2024 summer Hsinchu Imperial Bai Hao for about US$0.8/g. Camellia Sinensis has the...

Re: Taiwan Oolong Joy

I've updated my list of teas on page 1 of this post. I have three winter gaoshan available: Longfengxia, Hehuanshan, and Dayuling. My spring gaoshan are still going strong, so feel free to help me drink the last few packs to make room for next spring's harvest. I can ship to the U.S. via Canada Post...

Re: Hints for brewing competition grade Bai Hao

What is your steeping time when you use that amount of tea? I don't use timers. Mostly it's longer first brew(no rinse) and "fast" flushes for the 2nd and subsequent brews, longer later, depending on how it evolves. Always proper hot water. If it can't take it, it's usually the lower quality kinds....

Re: Hints for brewing competition grade Bai Hao

Their page has been around since 2020 according to the waybackmachine, but the english is new. This is what I've tried: - Spring YanXiang Black, 2024: OB inspired hongcha, simple, very enjoyable with honey notes, drunk through a can of it fast - Autumn Farmers Drink OB (a.k.a. Entry-level OB), 2024...

Re: Hints for brewing competition grade Bai Hao

Funny that it's the producer that CS sources from, I guess there's only a limited number of them. I'm just drinking 2023 winter 4 star Chin Shin Dapan, kind of their bottom line: it's clearly missing lot of the nice aromatics on the palate that make OB special, but i'm entirely happy with it as a c...

Re: Hints for brewing competition grade Bai Hao

For his regular Bai Hao, he suggests 6 g in a 200 ml pot using 175F water for 55 seconds. 175F (79C) sounds kind of tepid, I would expect that to taste pretty bland to me. I use boiling water for most teas, but for OB rolling boil can kill the aromatics, so there is some middle ground to find, perh...

GaoShan 8g is pretty standard for sampling around here. Either in a standard gaiwan, or “normal” sized pot of 100-120ml.
What is your steeping time when you use that amount of tea? Now I'm curious about trying it this way. I'm regretting not getting 20 g of the cheaper competition Bai Hao.
