Re: Why are Chawans so expensive?
I tend to believe there is some misconception in thinking chawan are widely more exensive than other pieces. Take a look at Kenji Hara or Fuku Fukumoto inventory lists. You will notice that chawan are indeed more expensive than smaller pieces like guinomi but might be cheaper than larger pieces. Of ...

Re: Yixing
I started looking into porosity under the assumption that porosity scales with rounding. However, I've found at least with my limited sampling of pots, this is not the case and impact on tea is potentially a much more complex issue than just porosity. I wish I had more pots to play with but unlike ...

I am sure this would take a lot of study. But who would fund this kind of study? A small contribution you might already know : https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Jason-Tzen/publication/318203705_Effect_of_Teapot_Materials_on_the_Chemical_Compositions_of_Oolong_Tea_Infusion_Effect_of_teapot_materi...

Re: Yixing
While I’m on it, might as well post the third old “Dicaoqing” I have, a veritable monster (for me) at 200ml and with very skinny handles… I admit I’m a bit nervous when using this pot. That and the size explains why it hasn’t gathered the same shine as the tiny Biandeng, although I have it much lon...

Re: Yixing
P.S. ZAG has one on offer just now, which looks like it’s from the same workshop/batch. 2K and it’s yours hearsay has it… Looks nice too, but it went through hard times… I’m puzzled by the shiny polished pots there. I have not seen any posted here and I can’t imagine the process. Have I missed a di...

Re: Yixing
+1, I don't really understand. None of F1 pots I have shows any bottom tool marks in lines as yours, regardless of the era. I still don't understand why at times 'lines" are extremely deep and sometimes they are not.

Re: Yixing
olivierd This is more complicated to explain due to each era has a certain way of making pots, and there are different quality levels within the same era. I think 90s onward, the expectations are neat and clean on the outside and inside, and a certain smoothness/sheen on the outside. As results of ...

What I don't understand also is why some pots insides are heavily marked with the tools, some are not at all. Just the potter's intention ?

Re: How I got started with Dan Cong
That 60ml from 60s is doing a good job, thin wall, looks high fired, so yes not that much porous, so you might say it's close to porcelain but yet not similar.
