Re: Japanese teapots for sale
1 and 2 shouldn't be slept on either. Young artists keeping the craft alive. As far as I know both of them prepare their own clay and fire their own kilns to make these teapots.

Re: Old teaset
Haven't had too much experience with these but given the motifs and how the gold is used I'd agree with Bok and say this isn't Japanese.

Re: Solving the mystery of Hokuro
Beautiful teapot!
As far as I've seen 朱泥 (shudei) in this context in Japan just means any kind of red tint colored teapot. So it will include any hongni, zhuni etc and even reddish zini.

Re: Japanese teapots and chawans
Time for a new update featuring a lot of price drops. Also decided to post a couple Domoto pieces, would highly recommend. A couple out of Echizen where he takes care of the shaping and wood firing, while she does all the carving and painting. Beautiful celadon pieces in an old Korean style. Picture...

Re: Wuyi Hype
I've found this travel report (together with the next post) also helpful to get a feel for the current state of the Wuyi market. https://www.cultofquality.com/i-barely-wuyi-wu-yi-tea-technique-research-trip-2024/ Unfortunately the excessive demand placed on the area seems to have affected it in mult...

I'm not quite sure about that one, it is what you can see in the pictures. If you'd like different angles/light let me know.

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Ito Gafu has recently been taking another step on the clay journey. Several years ago he was known for processing his own red clay through elutriation and making various teapots with that. In the past couple of years he's been mining clays from (nearby) tea fields, processing them and then using tha...

Re: Japanese teapots and chawans
Ah, it seems I forgot to list two items... The kirin/qilin one is a jingdezhen qinghua piece, it's more of a flat bowl than a cup but it is smaller than a regular hira chawan. Could be used as a small matcha bowl, a rather big cup or a teaboat. Price is $60. Then there is an antique celadon plate/te...

Re: Japanese teapots and chawans
It's been a while, some of the items are still around, some new ones have been added as well. I also realized it's possible to ship for significantly cheaper with small packet (~$10), but the packages can only be insured for up to $50. August update, a lot of the cups are gone, couple of new bowls and pots. Pictures available at https://ibb.co/album/cgSNbb The Yohsiki bizen pot is particularly interesting as he's only made few of these over the years. He used to study with a Bizen potter and has been doing collaborations once in a...
