Re: Dayi 7542

..could also be not-so-good batches, but can easily be fakes too.

Re: Dayi 7542

Thanks for the replies! , I think 2001 is going to be a bit too expensive for me, that's why I was thinking 2007 or so.

If not 7542, what would be a good "reference" cake to get under $100 or so? I'm looking more for milder, sweeter taste profile than anything too intense or smoky or whatnot.

Dayi 7542

I would like to buy a cake of Dayi 7542 of 2006-2010 year range, which year of this range would be best to get, which batch, and from where? Before I've only had a sample of this recipe from IIRC 2001 and it was pretty good, so I want to get a full cake of this recipe as a reference factory tea.

Re: The Essence of Tea

I got the tea today! All is good, thanks to everyone who responded! I think sometimes it's good to have a tracking number because one time a good cake from YangQing Hao got delivered to the wrong mailbox and then disappeared, if I kept a closer look on the delivery time I might have been able to rec...

Re: The Essence of Tea

@TheEssenceofTea No worries, I sent emails by replying to the initial order email and by using the web form on the site..

Essence of Tea slow order / responsiveness?

Hi, I'm not sure where to ask about this, but what has been your experience with Essence of Tea orders? I have ordered a month ago and the card was charged and I got the order email but after that, no more updates and no response to emails. I know they've been around for a while and should be a soli...

Re: Western facing F1 vendors list

https://moodyguy.biz/usd/teapots Is their reputation good? I can find nothing I bought one 70s HQSN of grade C from him and I really love it. Previously I thought the stuff about 70s clay is mostly bullshit, but I'm a believer now. Shipping, packing and communication were very good and quick too.

Re: Tetsubin

I've got my tetsubin! Unfortunately I keep getting tiny black particles in the water after boiling (almost too small to see), I've boiled around 8 times already.. I'll keep boiling tonight / tomorrow. Other than that tetsubin looks much nicer than I thought and is much larger than I expected as well...

Re: Tetsubin

pedant Yep, I first started looking at dutch ovens, then at bean pots (easier to handle and to pour), then at Kamas. All of them unglazed of course. A 2qt bean pot with a side handle for $30 is much cheaper and more readily available than a Tetsubin, and has an advantage of not having to take off t...

Re: Chagama Kama

Bok I drink much slower than you, I might do something like 10-15 infusions per 2 hours, sometimes I start a new tea in the middle of a session (with lower temp water), but other times I can do a 2 hour session with one tea and then continue the same session with 4-5 more infusions on the next day....

Re: Chagama Kama

rainy you’re having a two hour session with thermos stored hot water?? Any particular reason you don’t regularly brew fresh hot water? Seems like a lot of good flavours lost in the process... While you might not notice it in a negative way, I’m sure you would find it more positive if you’d always u...

Re: Chagama Kama

Victoria , well, in this case holding heat well would mean it steals a lot of heat from the water, so that wouldn't be good. Ideally you want something that transfers almost no heat so that within that one second, water goes from kettle to ladle to teapot with no thermal change. Wood may be one of ...
