Re: Tea: A Nerd's Eye View
It sure is OK, nothing wrong with conveying evocative images. Where I tune out is when the author seems to be asserting his super-human taste of smell by using references to something extremely specific or obscure. When I read a description that says a tea tastes like the spring sun, it is clear it...

Re: Sencha: what water temp do you use for the second cup?
I have this notion - perhaps a bit uneducated, biased, narrow minded and a problematic misconception - that if you can't gong fu a Japanese green (sencha, gyokoro, or what ever), then it's not High Quality. I admit it's a bit problematic, and I don't disgree with the conventional way of brewing such...

Re: Tea logs
There are some generic tasting apps around as well, that let's you defined what sort of entries you want in your log. And I've seen some printed tea logs as well. But I think that in the end I think most people have their own way of doing it and that generic method are either going to be just as gen...

Re: What HeiCha are you drinking
I've started a new project of drinking up stuff that has been a bit forgotten and that there is little left of. I can sometimes avoid drinking something that I'm about to run out of for reasons that are unlogical and that I really can't agree with on a higher intellectual level. And I guess that "hi...

Re: Tea: A Nerd's Eye View
There are cases when I find an obvious, in-you-face aromatic similitude to something that is very much not exotic nor especially refined in a tea, while it is described by a reviewer waxing lyrical about notes of white pebbles from the north shore of the Baltic sea. OK, I seldom describe taste in t...

Re: Your day in matcha
So I had okeiko today and something out of the ordinary happened. I was playing guest for one of my fellow students making a koicha temae. Our teacher however decided to skip actual koicha and thus usucha was made to drink, but the temae was still done as a koicha temae. (It wasn't entierly clear to...

Re: Caffeine in White, green, oolong, red, pu
I can't cite anything as I haven't really kept any of this info for references in any of my normal places it seems. But I seem to recall reading that it had less to do with processing and more to do with the various environmental differences for the plant itself, such as soil and location and what n...

Re: Teas best suited for grandpa style
I was under the impressions that 10 years is pretty standard for yancha.
But I drink a lot of "cheaper" Liu Bao grandpa style. It's nice, especially when the weather is a bit colder.

Re: Questions about storing tea in fridge
I think that the key to storing tea in the fridge or even in a freezer is to remove moist from the tea before cooling it. Which is why opened packages should not be stored cold. I do however think one can store tea in a fridge as long as one removes moist from the container first, I think the best w...

Teabowls
I thought we needed a thread for the appreciation and discussion of teabowls so I'll start it of with my beautiful Petr Novak bowl. I really love these bowls, such a great craftmanship and they're truly delightful to drink out of because they're so beautiful. DSC07281.jpg What are your favourite bow...

Re: Trusting Oneself & One's Tea
I drink many different kind of teas, I guess i could say that I enjoy all the categories. But I tend to prefere different kinds of tea depending on various variables in my life and surroundings. But I think there is a contrast and a balance between appreciating the tea as it is, and trying to get as...

Re: How much tea do you consume per day?
I would guesstimate that I drink on average about a litre or two, spending somewhere around 10-15g of tea leaves a day. I tend to mostly focus one tea each day. But often drink more than one, partly because I often cold brew over night or boil tea that has already been brewed. I also drink matcha on...
