Re: talkin' tie guan yin
Bok the Fukien ain't so bad man lol granted it is a working class tea as such, something for the local masses, affordable and of consistent quality. There's a whole genre of teas like that made in Hong Kong and in close proximity to one another. Btw, I've seen some green in their spent leaves, not ...

Re: talkin' tie guan yin
This discussion reminds me a little bit about my own tastes in puer. Someone can tell me all they want about some amazing high-quality young dry-stored ancient-tree raw puer, but I'd still prefer some cheap wet-stored tea instead, just as a matter of style and 'feel'. Andrew Yeap... I pretty much l...

Re: talkin' tie guan yin
Today is the Festival of the Birth of the Goddess of Mercy, Kuan Yin, after whom this venerated genre of tea is named after. Makes sense to have a few cuppas no? 😉 This morning I had a Grandpa mug of traditional Anhui roasted TGY which I'll refill when I get home later, and will move on to a heavy r...

Re: talkin' tie guan yin
StoneLadle did you actually try the tea from Zhen Tea in Ottawa? I have and I completely disagree with your comment. teaformeplease's description is right on the money. OK i'm cool with that. Why would I buy tea from Ottawa? The spent leaves don't look right to me. Way too green. But it's cool. Rea...

Re: When did the number of steeps start increasing for gongfu and why?
yea, the preoccupation with formulas and codes and traditions and provenance just seems like a black hole... GFC is a baseline method or set of tools as I see it... the tools needs to be applied specific to the situation at hand... so... for an "artist fartist" if I'd read that correctly, the situat...

Re: talkin' tie guan yin
wave_code it's good notice. It's always different perspective from Tea-Shop away plantation. In Hongkong/ Singapore and Malaysia, maybe we should asked their tea in "brand" name and blending. there's a tea merchant in KL named Kean Guan that produces their own baked TGY from maocha imported from Ch...

Re: talkin' tie guan yin
Modern TGY is quite different from what the tea used to be like. Before the Taiwanese processing style was used, the leaves actually looked more like dancong. This is one that I tasted and really enjoyed: https://www.zhentea.ca/chinese-tea/tie-guan-yin-classic/ that's a fully modern TGY expression ...

StoneLadle Well, to be fair, a 2021 raw sheng in a green cup would look the same  Chawangshop used to carry a 90s, Malaysia stored Duotelli. Love that stuff, I might fish it out of my storage! i wouldn't know what such a tea would taste like, but it's appearance certainly isn't far off from a ...

Re: What makes a modern Da Hong Pao a Da Hong Pao?
My impression is that DHP can mean any of the following: 1: The original DHP bushes and their tea 2: Tea produced from the bushes grown from cuttings of original DHP bushes 3: Special blend 4: Blend of all leftovers roasted more 5: General name for any yancha Difference between #3 and #4 is interes...

My impression is that DHP can mean any of the following: ..... 5: General name for any yancha About #5, I think I've had a conversations like this: "Which tea this is?" "It's Da Hong Pao" "Oh, I would have guessed it's Shuixian" "Yes, that's right, it's Shuixian. It's a kind of Da Hong Pao" :D :D T...
