Finally got around to making an account, hi!

I've been drinking tea ~forever, starting with earl grey while watching Star Trek with my Dad, then moving on to mostly oolongs, nowadays mostly yancha, sheng, and aged whites. I gongfu at home and grandpa at work. I live in NYC.
I know you! Howdy!

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

The Iceland Springs water doesn’t get cloudy. I haven’t tried the plain Nice! water but would find it odd if any water got cloudy. Something external would have to cause that, I would think. Mountain Valley Springs got cloudy on me as a boiled it. Something was definitely precipitating out. They ha...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

I tried some of the Nice! Spring water from Walgreens. Is it just me or did anyone else notice it got cloudy after boiling. Was it the nice spring water, or the nice iceland spring water. I’ve tried the former, and it did not get cloudy. I haven’t tried the iceland one yet (was gonna but grabbed th...

Re: starting from scratch with a $450 tea budget?

This is a simplistic vessel I use for 95% of my brewing. Solid and affordable and will do almost any tea you throw at it. With a filter you are good to go. https://yunnansourcing.com/collections/teawares/products/easy-gaiwan-duan-ni-clay-gaiwan-with-cup I do less on teaware so I can focus more on th...

Re: What to look for in young sheng for aging potential?

There are teas with older material already blended in so they have a jump start on the process. I'm a little confused. I thought old trees meant that the trees were older and had deeper roots and therefore extracted from deeper layers of nutrients and minerals (among other things). I also was under...

2012 Yunnan Sourcing “Nan Nuo Duo Yi Zhai”
Quite hard to describe om initial rinse aroma and taste. It does have the bitter and astringent as the vendor states.
Third steep in and energy building a bit. Pretty stout seems to be the way it is evolving.

2017 EoT Secret Forest Having a sample of this one tonight. Dumped the sample into the breaking tray. Looks to be bigger leaf and an almost purple hue to the leaf. Ye Sheng maybe? Not sure at this point. Got 10 grams out to brew with. Heated the water and pored some into the easy brewer and dumped. ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Agreed. I don't normally enjoy young Yiwu, but this one responds rather well to being pushed. Consdering getting some more before it sells out. I was actually careful with it. I'll try to push it harder next time. And, you should! His teas are really good. Agreed. He has done a good job sourcing th...
