Re: Oxygen Absorbers & Laminated Storage Bags
The O2 absorber and silica gel are not supposed to be used together as the absorber needs some humidity to work. I don’t know why your bag was crumbled up, but when using absorber alone the volume inisde the bag shouldn’t change. The ones I bought are specifically designed to be used in low humidit...

Re: Oxygen Absorbers & Laminated Storage Bags
Is it really worth the hassle for only 100g of tea after all, no? If I open a bag of teas that loose freshness quickly, I just finish it in 1-2 weeks. But that's just me. I like to have 4-5 teas open at once so I'm not drinking the same thing every day... Splitting a 100g bag into 2x50g bags helps ...

Re: Oxygen Absorbers & Laminated Storage Bags
I think it matters little if you don't have a machine that sucks out the oxygen. Most of its air out is not enough even with the oxygen absorber, at least with greener high mountain. Well the oxygen absorber I am using is rated for 100cc of oxygen, or 500cc of air. The sealable bags I'm using are a...

Re: Oxygen Absorbers & Laminated Storage Bags
removing what? The oxygen absorbers. Interesting... If I am repackaging 100g of tea into two 50g packs, do you think I should use an oxygen absorber in the one that I do not plan to drink yet? It would ideally have most of its air squeezed out manually prior to adding an oxygen absorber and heat se...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?
Don't know if this is the right place to post this but it's water related so I guess it's close enough? I'm by no means an expert but I can definitely taste a difference between: water boiled in a tetsubin (hot) water sitting in a tokoname honshudei yuzamashi water boiled in stainless steel kettle T...

Re: Oxygen Absorbers & Laminated Storage Bags
I’m not sure, but several tea merchants and tea friends were very insistent on removing them once the original package had been opened. And roasted or higher oxidised teas never have one. removing what? The merchant that sold me lightly roasted lishan gaoshan told me to store the tea in the origina...

Re: Oxygen Absorbers & Laminated Storage Bags
The re-sealable alum/PET bags I bought online (same as the ones that Thes-Du-Japon uses) seem to "leak" air when I squeeze them. If I put one filled with air under water, there are no bubbles in the water. However, if I squeeze the sealed bag under water, air bubbles will emerge from the sealed bag...

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
twno1 I might be wrong, but isn't Japanese tea in general meant to be poured very slowly anyways? Fast pour is useful for Oolong in my experience. I'm still new to the whole tea world but Hojo says shiboridashi should have fast flow . I'm assuming the one in the video is a 110ml shiboridashi from h...

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Should a shiboridashi have a fast or slow pour speed? I recently got two and they pour extremely slowly compared to side handled kyusu. Is this normal or should I look to change my pouring technique? Shiboridashi #1: Capacity of 100ml Takes about 11 seconds to completely pour without any leaf. With ...

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Although Shudei is not very absorbing, personally I’d not mix them. Over time the high mountain might overpower the Japanese teas. If this were to happen, would boiling the kyusu be able to "cleanse" it of the roasted high mountain aroma/flavor? Shoud be enough, if not use a little sodium percarb f...

Re: Oxygen Absorbers & Laminated Storage Bags
Moved your post from What Green Are You Drinking to here, as topic is interesting enough to have its own thread. I really don’t think oxygen absorbers put out significant heat to affect Japanese green teas. Repacking 100gram packs into two 50g packs makes sense, I would use a vacuum sealer like Foo...

Oxygen Absorbers & Laminated Storage Bags
Anyone have any experience using oxygen absorbers and laminated PET/AL bags to store tea? A lot of the tea I bought are in (100g) packages that do not have resealing capabilities and some are not thick enough for a sealing stick to work. I thought about buying some re-sealable PET/AL bags (like the ...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Do unopened packs of slightly roasted high mountain oolong store better in the fridge or at room temp? I believe the shop owner said to not refrigerate the tea after opening but I forgot to ask about storage before opening.
