Re: Looking for places to browse: Tokyo
The previously mentioned Thes du Japon shop should absolutely be able to hook you up with high quality Gyokuro or Sencha, he's also a big fan of offering less common styles such as pan fired kamaira-cha or fermented bancha.

Re: Novice help please
I weigh the tea but do not weigh the water when brewing as I'm filling the pot to the same spot so the amount of water isn't going to really change. Although I do use a scale to initially measure how large pots and cups are. I've got a thermapen for the water temp too, but that's more for sencha you...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Found a jewel in the haystack. After finishing still drinkable open packs of sencha, I’m now going through unopened packs of Japanese greens I unfortunately didn’t refrigerate. This one is very high quality from 11/30/2017, it is excellent. Anyone recognize this one? The light yellow liquor is very...

Re: Looking for places to browse: Tokyo
When I visited Tokyo in 2003, I drank tea when we were out, but I was not really 'into' tea yet; and now I wonder if this shop was selling charcoal for tea ceremonies or another purpose; it was close to the most expensive real estate in Tokyo, in Ginza, and was ultra spare chic: https://farm7.stati...

Re: Has anyone ever bought teaware from buyjp4u?
I've ordered from them twice without issue. I have noticed their prices are often towards the high side though. Not always mind, and I don't recall anything egregious plus in the cases where they're the only one offering something it's just a question of what's it worth to you anyways.

Re: Season a Kyusu?
Definitely a legit seller and I expect Chip will say that looks more like it :) From the ebay listing I'd still have guessed the "shudei" and not "hon-shudei" however I do find that Toru's photos generally end up being a touch truer to life in terms of colour so if irl it matches the hon-shudei from...

Re: Season a Kyusu?
Interesting. I read about this builder and his clay from an older teachat thread. It’s an 85ml Shudei from Gisui. Here is the post that got me inspired to pick it up. I will definitely try some more styles in it. https://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?t=22216 Funny, I would not have guessed Gisui. T...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Tillerman's Winter LiShan from the fundraiser, brewed in a wood fired pot acquired via Bok. It's only the 2nd oolong I've had so I don't really have anything to compare it to but I'm really impressed by the fragrance, smells wonderful just pouring it out of the pot. The "galaxy" yunomi I'm drinking ...

Doing my darndest to find out if one can have too many teas. Hmm, now I'm wondering if it's okay to grab more than one thing from the fixed-price sale? No worries if it's not.

Re: The place where water turns tea purple...
As for the purple effect, of which I didnt know until now, id wager it is about the sulfur, the area where the water springs is full of fumaroles and the scent of sulfur is strong, the water comes out somewhat fizzy (they call it sour water) So, I need to take a drive and fill up a few bottles at S...

Re: Jin's Yellow Clay
It certainly is a funky little thing, caught my eye in his listings too but don't worry there's no chance I'll be snapping it up. With regards to handling, I'd make the same assumption as Victoria that the potter knows what he's doing and really in terms of form just change the spout style and it se...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Kirishima Sae-midori from Thes Du Japon. It's sold as a fukamushi but the leaf is no where near as broken up as most other deep steamed teas I've had. This is reflected in the brew resulting in something that is comparatively clear in both taste and appearance, not as airy as many of his ashamushi's...
