Hello I’m James, a newly certified Japanese instructor living in Shizuoka.

I’ve shared a bit in the blog thread section but seeing as my experiences relate to Japan and the tea here,

Perhaps here would be better?

Sencha Meditation

Sencha is a meditative experience. 4月14日(水) 大安 日々是好日 Partaking of a fine cup of tea, a bowl of matcha, leaves simmered 2-3 rounds... The drink heats your body and enlightens your mind- it grounds you while sending a supple, dualistic dose of caffeine and L-Theanine into your system; the 2 work in sy...

James in Japan

Hi all I have so much to share on weekends I’ll be uploading my blog. Let me start with this one: Tasting some of the fresh yield of crude tea “Aracha” from various regions in Shizuoka. Will be raining from tomorrow so the last chance for a few days to get it fresh. 昨日の出来上がりを今朝みました! Everyday the tea...

Pan-fired “Kamairi-cha”

Hi, I tried some tea from Kumamoto Sourced by Thes Du Japon. What with the recent land slide in the area I thought it’d be nice to share something for Kumamoto (copy and paste from Instagram) The things I wrote were drawn from my experience drinking this tea and my own study of tea from the Japanese...

Re: Tasting Single Origin Cultivars

The tea I am drinking in the pictures shared above is from Sayama, Saitama 狭山煎茶 and the cultivar is Yume-Wakaba (as opposed to Yabukita). If you like this cultivar, you might want to try this. This one is Fukamushi. https://gokuchaninshop.cart.fc2.com/ca11/1/p-r11-s/ Thanks I love Fukamushi tea! Th...

Re: Tasting Single Origin Cultivars

Nice write up James Edward Although I've been getting deep into the weeds of Pu'er in the last year, I still drink Sencha every day. I used to start the day with it, though now I'm enjoying it around lunch time. The brewing experience is calming and I always feel refreshed after a session. I'm fair...

Re: Tasting Single Origin Cultivars

hey James Edward, nice review. i agree, japan has a lot to offer beyond yabikuta! Yes it certainly does! Luckily Thés Du Japon is in the business of making rarer teas widely available. The company representative Florent is a good guy and I’m working on getting him on a bilingual tea podcast before ...

Re: Tasting Single Origin Cultivars

Bok, right on!
Blends do have their place and convenience and I’ll pick up a 100g bag of quality deep steamed tea as my go to, but when writing and sharing about tea nothing beats the single origin teas and their diversity.
