Re: Tea from Taiwan this season

Most farmers in Wuyishan didn't make winter tea in 2019. The lack of rain left the trees too stressed to harvest. I very much see both sides of the small quantity sales. As a vendor, of course managing small packages is work. I somewhat mitigate that by only selling small packages. I realize t...

Re: Interesting research group for Yixing clay

I can provide some background on the technical aspect. Based on the screenshots in thepost it appears that they are doing EDX analysis . It is a technique where you put the sample in a machine and excite the sample with xrays or electrons. The machine measures the energy of the emitted photons and c...

Re: Oolong Vendor Topic

When I want Taiwan oolong I go to Floating Leaves, Tillerman, and Leafy Green. I've yet to try @Ethan Kurland's products.

Re: Some reflections and some new things learned on a trip to Taiwan

I enjoyed reading your reflections on the trip. The National Palace museum is amazing, I go every time I get a chance to visit Taiwan. Interesting to see production costs mentioned. Wuyishan is in the same ballpark.

Re: Yancha issues

Closer to the source you get better teas... no? Good connections for excellent teas take decades to form and that is just easier done by someone living in the region. Western facing sellers that travel there a few times a year will have a harder time getting that done. Without existing connections ...

My daily teacup. It is one if a two cup set. The other cup (short and wide) does not show the cracks as nicely.

Re: peeling my filters

Interesting result. My aunt uses a Berkey filter. I'll see if she has heard of using a peeler when they are too clogged for a scotch brite.

Re: Plastic piece in a sample of factory cake

I'm going with plastic bag threads as well. I'm very familiar with those bags. :) Aside: It is best to avoid getting your keys in pictures, since it is possible to decode the key and cut a copy. For example, the TSA had a picture of their master key on their website, and it was used to cut a copy as...

I drink tea up until I get ready for bed. I try to drink slower the last hour or so to avoid getting up in the night.

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

It's Friday and my desk is still out of yancha. I got out my 2017 danzhu from Farmer-Leaf. I'm always happy to drink this tea. It has nice character, good sweetness and leaves you feeling fresh.

It is interesting. To me it looks like a silver plated brass pot with a hand painted ceramic panel. How does it work? The spout seems to be part of the lid?

Re: Musings on Dancong…

The shop owner was lamenting the state of Dancong farms and farmland compared to the now heavily regulated and protected Wuyi area. I can't speak to the state of Dancong farms, but I can discuss some of that regulation in Wuyishan. Over the last year the local government has been pulling out the bi...
