Re: looking for a specific Korean Tea

I asked my wife and she giggled and said that it's not really tea but something along the lines of herbal/traditional medicine that can be purchased over the counter and apparently used for solving pooping issues. Its name is "Goodmorning S Granule" which you can probably google and find a place to ...

Re: How do you store tea in a hot house?

I am not sure if mine qualifies as a 'hot house': I live in Los Angeles and have air conditioning, but I do my best to avoid heating up the outside world by turning it on too soon, so my 'room temperature often gets to the low eighties in the summertime. Thanks for the info! This works in pretty fu...

How do you store tea in a hot house?

Hello! So far I’ve always rented a house with a basement that stays cool even in summer and I just kept tea in ziplocks there. We just finally got our first house and it doesn’t come with a basement so I need to figure something out now. How do you store teas? Are there some special fridges or conta...

Re: What is your favorite caffeine-free tisane?

Genmaicha is good stuff but very different, primarily because it does have actual tea in it. However, “roasted rice” is a thing of itself (in Korea at least) and I drink it as well. My favorite is still corn but since my supply of corn is limited and I couldn’t find the one I liked for sale, I also...

Re: How hot is too hot? (cancer risks from hot drinks)

doomslayer: like you, I cannot enjoy very hot food or drink. Perhaps that's driven me towards old tea, especially old pu er, which can be enjoyed in large quantities even after it has cooled down. There seems to be some precedent for this habit of mine: http://www.marshaln.com/2008/05/friday-may-9-...

Re: How hot is too hot? (cancer risks from hot drinks)

I am naturally safe here because I have something called cat's tongue (at least I was told it's called that way). Basically I can't drink or eat anything remotely hot, it really hurts my tongue. At least now I know how it happened evolution-wise :D However, I do want to to add that it comes at a pri...

Re: What is your favorite caffeine-free tisane?

Oh wow that's a lot of corn info, thanks for sharing! I'll see if I can find anything and experiment further. Someday when I own a house, I'll probably just plant a small patch of corns for tea purposes!

Re: What is your favorite caffeine-free tisane?

I've actually got several different options for roasted corn for tea, including some heirloom dent corn that I mill for cornbreads and muffins etc; some heritage blue corn that makes lovely lavender corn muffins; and some ridiculously deep purple corn that IIRC is actually imported and sold for use...

Re: What is your favorite caffeine-free tisane?

Is it? I thought the problem is that the whole world is pretty much using the same kind of generic factory farmed corn, which is why they all taste so bad... The native variety of corn crops in the Americas is getting smaller and smaller due to pressure on the farmers from agricultural conglomerate...

Re: What is your favorite caffeine-free tisane?

thanks for the suggestions. I've got plenty of whole corn at present: maybe it's time to try to roast some corn myself and go for it. Yup, I think you've got the right idea! So, like I mentioned above, I've had two corn teas - one was okay and the other one was very noticeably better. The other day...

Re: What is your favorite caffeine-free tisane?

I've bought some roasted grains like corn, barley, even beans, to make those roasted tisanes that I've enjoyed in restaurants, but have been discouraged by less than optimal results--I just get burnt grain taste, not that sweetness that the restaurants serve. How do you get that sweetness from them...

Oh interesting, I didn't know about all those herbs! Will definitely add to my list to try. And yeah, I drink all of these without sugar too.

The corns are dry, it looks like this:

What is your favorite caffeine-free tisane?

While I love my teas, I also have passion for coffees. Even though I probably built some tolerance after being soaked in caffeine for decades, I still have to manage my caffeine intake. Usually around the equivalent of 6 espresso shots per day, things start getting tricky so I am trying to keep it a...

Re: Cooking matcha vendor recommendations

O-cha seems to be shipping again! It is through a pretty expensive Fedex option however, so probably have to buy a lot to justify shipping price.
