Re: Tetsubin

I’m looking for a smaller tetsubin as I only tend to use sub 100ml water per infusion...also TAD. Found these on Yahoo, but can’t decipher a name. Anyone familiar? They are pricey but nice(looking), the lack of an urushi plug on the bottom is new to me.

[WTS] Oddball Hokuju Kyusu

The tall kyusu sell off continues (only 2 left after this one, but they will need some kintsugi love). Very funky Hokujo kyusu, thin walled, typical of Hokujo, but its got a thick heavy base. 160ml, with a big filter. I tried to capture they yohen effect but its hard to photograph, it stretches almo...

Re: Why are Chawans so expensive?

I'd like to venture an answer from the knowledge I have gleaned over the years. All pottery is made with great aesthetic care and attention. Different pieces have different challenges. But when you consider a chawan, that object is in a class by itself. I know potters will sit in front of their whe...

Re: Why are Chawans so expensive?

I've been wondering this too, as I've even seen artists with similarly sized "large yunomi" selling for half a chawan. An example I just saw tonight was from Yoshiki. His super precise, detailed pots sit around 15000 Yen. I found a site selling a chawan of his for 35000 Yen. It makes no sense to me...

Why are Chawans so expensive?

My journey into matcha didn’t last long, finding pretty quickly that I prefer loose leaf over powdered. Lately, as I do my daily Yahoo Auctions haunt, I’m taken aback by the price of chawans. If a potters pots, vases and cups are selling for $100-$500, I will see their chawans going for $1k+. Is it ...

Re: FS: Yamada Emu Woodfired Kyusu

This truly is a gorgeous kyusu. Surely somebody who isn't strapped during covid will pick this up! Having picked stuff up from Darby before I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from him again. Everything is clean as and he packs it very well. Thank you for the kind words! I’ve got a big ol’ shipping cha...

Even though I go lidless, the lid is always present, and I would be bummed if it somehow got broken.

One of the reasons I like going lidless is it helps break some old habits from when I was into gong fu, can’t pour too fast or just place the pot in a gong dao bei!

Re: FS: Yamada Emu Woodfired Kyusu

Really nice Emu! I hope someone buys it quickly ... before I do! I actually like taller kyusu and this has a nice wide opening. Often taller kyusu have rather small openings. But I do tend do reach for more squatty shapes much more often. So, you watch the leaves as you brew? I do too. The vast maj...

Re: FS: Yamada Emu Woodfired Kyusu

Beautiful mayake kyusu. Sometimes I’ll sit for a year with certain kyusu just observing, before deciding what a good pairing might be. It doesn’t really have to do with how it pairs with tea, but just how I enjoy teapots. I like to see the leaves, watch them grow and move. This is just too nice of ...
