Re: Yixing

A sideways anecdote: recent price I saw here for a 60s Hongni Shuiping 12-cups. Asking price the equivalent of 1600USD! M e n t a l . I knew these large ones are sort of rare, but that price is not worth it. For that price I can get a nice antique instead... That sounds, well, steep. Saying that, I...

Re: British taste in, and knowledge of, tea

I think as other's have said, whether you're talking about British tea culture or any other, the most meaningful distinction you can draw is between those who are genuinely passionate about tea as a broader interest, and those who just drink whatever teas are culturally ubiquitous and widely availab...

Re: Mei leaf

I believe I have a fairly impartial perspective on Mei Leaf, I have watched many of their videos and tried a few of their teas a while ago. I’m not a fan nor a customer, but nor do I have any particular axe to grind. Firstly, there isn’t really anything else on YouTube like the Mei Leaf channel. I’m...

Want to Buy: EoT 150ml Dehua Vintage Fairness Cup

A little while ago The Essence of Tea had these white Dehua gongdaobei's for sale. I’m posting the photo below with David’s blessing. Re: FS: Hokujo rear-handle kyusu, 85ml

That one must be from the last two batches, he did not make them this small before. I got one from those batches as well and they are brilliant! As you say good for any Taiwan Oolong, green, roasted or black. But one has to decide for one as they season fast! Good offer on a very good pot! Thanks B...

FS: Hokujo rear-handle kyusu, 85ml

For sale: a small (but perfectly formed) Hokujo kyusu, 85ml, with his rarer rear-handle design. Pots of this size are unusual for Hokujo, I believe he's only started making them recently. It would be excellent for many teas, but I find the size and shape lends particularly well to Taiwanese oolongs,...

‘Resting’ Yancha

Most of my (minimal) understanding of tea storage etc. relates to puerh. I’ve always heard it’s best to allow a cake to rest and acclimatise for a week or so after shipping, and have personally noticed sample packs seeming to improve if opened and allowed to air briefly, then sealed again and left f...

Re: Yixing advice

Resurrecting a bit of an old thread here, but I’m hoping to purchase a pot for Liu Bao soon, and would be grateful for some advice. For now I’m planning to own only one pot for this tea, so ideally it would do well brewing both more modern tea, and the occasional vintage Liu Bao from the 70s etc. P...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

I’ve eyed that Keemun longingly for a while now but can never bring myself to buy some. Do you know if Hojo offers <10g samples upon request for teas like this? I’d love to buy a single sessions worth. It seems awfully expensive for what it is but I’m intrigued. It couldn't hurt to ask. Or just tak...

Re: Yixing Cleaning Advice

Really depends on condition of clay, if it has a moldy smell, a lot of buildup and or black mold, or is pretty clean and just needs to be reset and christened. If the pot looks pretty good just soaking it for a day in water, and then pouring boiling water inside and outside might be good enough. Im...
