Apologies, guess I misunderstood. I thought people were claiming that patina didn't really come from tea. Either way I think this is an interesting study.

Re: Yixing
There are studies that show that patina is at least partially from tea compounds. Here's one: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 9814000945

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Here's an example of a Kohokujo pot with a mark that looks similar to me: https://www.artisticnippon.com/product/ ... apot5.html

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Recently bought a Kysusu that's supposed to be by Hokujo, but the mark appears to be Kohokujo's to me. Can anyone verify?

Re: Gaiwan
My favorite gaiwan is from The Tea Gallery, which has closed. It's eggshell thin and a dream to use; however, I worry about the day will come that it breaks. What are people's recommendations for thin gaiwan with flared lips to minimize finger-burning? I haven't used them but these gaiwans look pre...

Re: Yixing
nohwonder That’s a bummer to hear about damaged handle. The same thing happened with a pot I bought from them. Imho $280 is kinda a lot for a small green label zini sp. Id recommend waiting for them to restock more early and mid-70’s hongni pots ($500ish) instead of getting another green label repl...

Re: Yixing
nohwonder I concur with Bok, playing the return game is risky. Price reduction would be ideal. Having recently experienced a major international return hassle, I strongly discourage this course of action. It sounds like you have some good plans anyway. Also, with these old pots, they still consider...

Re: Yixing
nohwonder Definitely a discouraging situation, but hope is not lost. My communications with ZAG were extensive, I have a feeling they will be sympathetic. We take a risk, and are at a major disadvantage not being able to examine the pot in person. Pictures tend to gloss over imperfections, and not ...

Re: Yixing
Yeah, a partial refund is what I'm hoping for, returning it would be a hassle and it still seems like a totally functional pot. Do you have any recommendations for how I might go about adding a metal ring like you mentioned? Depends on how handy you are with crafts 8-) I'd find a thin sheet of nice...

Re: Yixing
The chip that the crack appears to have developed from was definitely visible in the original sale pictures, I just didn't see it originally. My guess is that the crack developed in shipment, but still the pot shouldn't have been labeled as "perfect" with a chip like that in my opinion. I think it'...

Re: Yixing
That said it looks like a typical crack that happens from carelessly putting down the pot on a tea boat... seen these a lot. Have a lot of them as well. This position looks reasonably safe for future use in terms of stability. I’d check the original sale pictures closely if it was there before. Hid...
